Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Are these courses recognised? Will I be recognised by the relevant professional Associations when I have completed them?
Answer: The Academy’s courses are recognised by all relevant and leading professional Associations in Australia, as well as some overseas. This is a most important criteria to look for when selecting any course of study as belonging to a reputable Association is a key component of professional practice. Without professional recognition, study can only be undertaken for personal interest and will not be counted towards any professional accreditation. Satisfactory completion of the Academy’s courses will afford you the opportunity to apply to join a number of industry recognised Associations and will allow you to operate as a recognised practitioner.
Question: Why are your courses not VETAB approved?
Answer: There are 3 important reasons why our courses are not VETAB approved. Firstly, organisations have a choice to be government VETAB accredited or not. While accreditation tends to assure course content quality and structure, it does not guarantee a quality learning environment and expertise. The Academy has chosen to retain the autonomy to source inspiring teachers with excellent reputations and qualifications from both Australia and overseas. All our staff are qualified practitioners and passionate teachers who run busy clinical practices.
Secondly, we prefer to align ourselves with organisations who lead our industry rather than a government approval process. We offer membership options in large industry Associations that drive continued professional education. Also, our teachers are members/supervisors/leaders of these organisations that support new practitioners in building their practices.
Thirdly, the accreditation, currency and yearly renewal for RTO’s cost many thousands of dollars annually. We pass these savings on to our students and you will see these savings clearly evident in our course fees.
Question: How qualified are the lecturers/teachers?
Answer: All Academy staff are highly qualified practitioners with many years experience in active clinical work and teaching. Each has been selected for their formidable reputation within the profession, as well as their passion and skill for effective teaching.
Question: If I don’t understand something while I’m doing my home study, what help is available to me?
Answer: When you enroll with our Academy, one of our teachers will be assigned as your mentor. They will be ready to support you through the home study component, if you need them. They will make contact with you to welcome you to the Academy and provide you with their contact details. They will use either phone, email or webcam (Skype) to answer any questions you may have.
Question: How do I find work once I’m qualified?
Answer: The vast majority of therapists are self-employed, although there are a few employed in government or semi-government, or medical situations. Some therapists run their clinic in rooms that are already part of an existing group of practitioners, while others establish private rooms, either in a professional office suite or in a suitable home office.
There are modules in the Diploma Courses that specifically cover setting up practice and marketing of your business. Also, you will be learning from teachers who are already successfully doing so and are well equipped to guide you in this area.
Question: Why do your courses have faster completion rates than other courses available elsewhere? Will I be missing out on anything by studying with the Academy?
Answer: A part of what is generally built into many courses in the marketplace is not essential to clinical practice, but simply adds bulk to the course so that it appears as though you are getting more for your money. It is our policy to never do this. We include everything to enable you to be truly successful, without anything peripheral or superfluous. Plus, with our courses, you are able to study at home, at your convenience. This saves you both time and money because you are not contributing to the overheads involved in running full time, on-site teaching facilities. Our courses are exhaustive, unabridged, and streamlined for effective, efficient learning outcomes.
Above all, any course must train you to be a competent practitioner AND to a level where you can be accredited (i.e. join a peak professional body/association) in order for you to use your skills in the marketplace. The rest — your preference for one particular college, its principles and staff, its location, recommendations, fees, and so on – naturally comes down to personal preference.
After completing studies through the Academy of Transformational Psychotherapy you will have the choice of a number of professional associations you can apply to join, both in Australia as well as overseas. (Some do require applicants to sit an entrance exam).
Our graduates may elect to apply to become members of one or more of the following Associations and others:
- The International Association of Counselors and Therapists, IACT
- The Australian National Hypnotherapy Register, ANHR
- The Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapy, ASCH
- The Australian Hypnotherapists Association, AHA
